Providence Alumnae Chapter History

On a snowy night in March 2010, seven Kappa Alpha Theta Alumnae forged through the inclement weather to gather at the Bluefin Grille in the Providence Marriott. It didn’t take long for all seven women to quickly connect and talk for hours, planting the seeds for the first Theta Alumnae Chapter in Rhode Island.

Starting a new Alumnae Chapter proved to be quite an adventure. It was the first time many of the women had taken on such an involved project, but thanks to the dedication, persistence, and vision of the soon-to-be new members, the chapter was chartered and recognized by Headquarters in a month’s time. The Providence Kappa Alpha Theta Alumnae Chapter received our charter on April 1, 2010.

The Providence Alumnae Chapter’s priority was to establish a solid core group of women, and to understand the type of experience the charter members wanted out of an alumnae chapter. The decisions gave the group a foundation and purpose.

The first year was filled with a series of accomplishments. We established by-laws, planned social events such as a wine tasting, Bunco night, a cooking class, "Girls Night Out" dinners, and even received a special visit from Santa, who brought gifts for all the children at the Alumnae Chapter's Family Holiday Brunch. We also made a difference in the community by volunteering at a soup kitchen, the Ronald McDonald Walk, and by collecting gifts for homeless teenage girls during the holidays.

The Providence Alumnae Chapter has been featured in the Kappa Alpha Theta Magazine many times since our founding in 2010 - you can almost always find us mentioned in some part of the The Magazine!

We were thrilled to receive a Pansy Alumnae Chapter Award at Grand Convention in June 2014 and then a Golden Kite Award at Grand Convention in 2016!

Theta Alumnae in RI are on the move indeed! We are over 25 members strong and we are relying on the growth of membership to bring new ideas, widen our interests as a group, and enhance the Theta alumnae experience!
